Purpose of Hysteroscopy

The main purpose of hysteroscopy is to diagnose and treat various uterine conditions. Some of the common conditions that can be diagnosed and treated through this procedure are:

Abnormal uterine bleeding: Hysteroscopy can help identify the cause of abnormal bleeding, such as uterine fibroids, polyps, or adhesions.

Hysteroscopy can help identify and treat any structural abnormalities in the uterus that may be causing infertility.

Abnormal growths: Hysteroscopy can help identify and remove uterine fibroids, polyps, or adhesions.

Preparation for Hysteroscopy

Before the procedure, your doctor will give you specific instructions on how to prepare. This may include:

Avoiding food and drink for several hours before the procedure

Taking medications as directed by your doctor

Notifying your doctor of any allergies or medical conditions

During the Procedure

During the hysteroscopy procedure, the doctor will insert the hysteroscope through the vagina and cervix into the uterus. A saline solution may be used to expand the uterus and allow for better visualization. The doctor will then examine the inside of the uterus using the hysteroscope. If necessary, the doctor may also perform biopsy or remove any growths.

Recovery After Hysteroscopy

After the procedure, you will be monitored for a short period of time. You may experience some cramping and light bleeding, but these symptoms should resolve within a few days. Your doctor will give you specific instructions on when you can return to your normal activities and when you should follow up for your next appointment.
