The couple may decide to use donated sperm when there is significant male factor infertility. The sperm donors must donate at the authorised sperm banks and are typically anonymous. Before releasing the semen sample, they are also tested for infectious viral infections like HIV, Hbsag, and HCV. The same tests are done every 6 months.
